GallerySkip 0.9 by doofsmack GallerySkip 0.9 by doofsmack
What is it?
A greasemonkey script that shows thumbnails of the previous two and next two deviations in the gallery you're viewing, underneath the current deviation. It allows you to skip between deviations in a gallery without having to use the back button or switch tabs.

Why?
Why not? ;P
It's a feature I've been wanting for a while, and I've heard it requested more than a few times in the Suggestions forum.

How do I get it?
In order to use it, you must be using Mozilla or Mozilla Firefox, and you must have the Greasemonkey extension installed. Then, right click :pointr:this link:pointl: and choose "Install User Script". Next time you view a deviation, you should see a row of thumbnails underneath it.

Changelog
0.9
* Yet another complete rewrite. Works on dAv5.
0.5
* Completely restructured the script internals. Behavior should be exactly the same, but it should now work on Firefox 1.5 with newer versions of greasemonkey. Hasn't been tested on older versions of Firefox, so if you have issues with it, try 0.2 below.
0.2
* Added previous/next buttons, to allow you to browse an entire gallery without leaving the page.
* Changed "Other deviations by ____" to be a link to the deviant's gallery
0.1
* Initial release

Daily Deviation

Given 2005-07-05
While hunting high and low through people's photo-galleries for DD-candidates, I realised that during my search I was using the GallerySkip 0.1 by =doofsmack all the time for the browsing. It became simply essential, so it will be my first DD. ( Featured by bzed )

In your thumb up there it shows the deviations being Horizontally placed, but they come out vertically on my page ... any way to change this? :? I'm just curious, as it would be a lot neater and tidier for my page. ^^;

Installed it just now... How can I make the thumbnails display horizontally as opposed to 5 thumbs in a column?

In the past week or so this script appears to not be working. It shows a rectangular grey box stating "more from username" and does not show any of the deviations. :(

Ditto to what pyritie said; it just started putting everything in a vertical column instead of a row. Two other things as well: the description claims it shows the previous and next deviations, but mine always shows the five most recent, no matter where I am in the gallery...also, is there any way to edit it so that the box appears below the artist's comments (or anywhere, really) instead of between those and the deviation?

Yep; known bugs. The vertical arrangement is likely due to a change in dA CSS, and the deviation url change a few months ago made it always show the most recent deviations. I don't really have time to look into fixing these currently. :(

You need to have Greasemonkey installed to use the script. Try installing it, restarting Firefox, and trying again.

Mm, it would be convenient, but I don't see the problem with it reverting to the 'latest' submissions each time. The browser scrolls very quickly, and this makes things so much easier as it is. ^^ Loving the thumbnails, definitely much better than the next/prev default links. Personally I think I would rather like them below the artist comments, though.

It would be so so so soo sooo so so so so soooooo so so so so so so so so sooooooo useful, it it would really show the previous and next deviantions. As some have complained before, it only shows the latest ones, apparently. I'm using Fx 2.0.0.6 and the latest version of this script.
Could you please repair it? Pleasepleasepleease! Please...

Well it looks like dA's rendered this incompatible since its anniversary a couple weeks ago.
They added their own version of GallerySkip, but it doesn't skip so much as hop to the next/previous deviation, AND no thumbs! *cries*

Hi, I love this add on, but ever since my computer updated Firefox a couple of days ago, it hasn't been working right. It only shows the latest 5 deviations so you can't really scroll through the gallery anymore. It makes me very sad :(

With new-style deviation URLs, this script always shows the five latest deviations by the same author, not the five centered on the current one.

IIUC, the logic to get the "deviation number" is flawed when confronted with a URL of the form http://author.deviantart.com/art/title-number

Old-style URLs http://www.deviantart.com/number/
are still used in some cases; these are of course handled correctly.

IMHO the error is at line 31, where, if element [2] (or is it [3] ?) of the split is "art", the same address should be split again, on '-' this time, and the last element parseint'ed; but I don't speak JavaScript well enough and I have tried, without success, to fix the script.

I don't know if you've noticed... but dA seems to have changed the web addresses for deviations now... so the included pages for the script needs to altered...
I'm using *deviantart.com/art/*

hey man...seems like dA changed the link system, the deviation links are now userpage/art/name-deviationnumber... =/ quite annoying. they also introduced back and forward buttons, but honestly, I think your gallery skip plugin is a whole lot better, but now with the new links it does not work anymore...any chance that you will adapt it to the new system, and perhaps correct the default bug too?
would be really awesome, as your script made browsing a joy!

have a good day :salute:
Daniel
